Nelda S. Lee, a Self-Employed Art Appraiser, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in fine arts.
As a prolific presence in the Odessa arts community, Ms. Lee has accrued numerous awards and served in a number of civic positions over a lifetime of passion with fine arts. Currently, she runs her own fine art and property appraisal business and holds a seat with the board of directors at the Odessa Art Museum, where she has served as chairperson of the acquisition committee since 1979. As an artist in her own right, Ms. Lee has been exhibited in El Paso, Texas, New Orleans, Louisiana, and even in Mexico. She is the recipient of a 1964 Designer-Craftsman Award from the El Paso Museum of Fine Arts.
Born in Gorman, Texas, Ms. Lee attended Tarleton State University and Texas Woman’s University before completing a BA in Fine Arts from the University of North Texas. Very early on, she offered her services to Ector High School in Odessa as head of the art department while working on her continuing studies. Ms. Lee has conducted postgraduate studies at Texas Tech University, the San Miguel de Allende Art Institute in Mexico, and the University of Southern California. She launched her art gallery business in 1967, and in 1972, Ms. Lee was certified by the American Society of Appraisers as a certified personal property appraiser, expanding her services considerably.
Ms. Lee continued to produce art and to contribute to the Odessa civic community, notably serving as president of Mega-Texas Productions in making television and movie programming. She has been a leader with the Texas Art Education Association, Toastmasters International, YMCA of Odessa, Altrusa International, the Ector County Democrat Women’s Club, and even the American Heart Association. Her fine arts expertise has contributed to the collection of the Permian Basin Presidential Museum in Odessa and from 1993 to 1995 she was the Odessa appointee to the Texas Commission for the Arts. Among her many awards, Ms. Lee was notably a presenter for President Jimmy Carter’s Inauguration at the Texas State Society in 1977. She was honored with Lifetime Membership for Outstanding Community Service by the Odessa Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of numerous museums and artistic societies. Ms. Lee is the proud mother of Jeanna Lea Pool.
