Jacqueline R. Livesay, Church Musician at First United Methodist Church, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education.

Ms. Livesay has taught music in the historic city of Jackson, Michigan since 1989, and performed as an organist since 1977. She has been an important member of the Jackson Symphony Guild since 1999, and currently serves the First United Methodist Church as church musician and educator. She has been an organist and director of children’s music there, and concurrently directs Orff music at the First Presbyterian Church nearby, as well as the Jackson Chorale Children’s Choir. Ms. Livesay is certified through levels I, II, and III in Orff-Schulwerk teacher training.

Born in Charlottesville, Virginia to Eldridge G. and Elizabeth Row Ryder, Ms. Livesay graduated from the Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, and married Charles Jackson Livesay in 1973. They had three children, Jennifer Livesay Pereira, Jean, and the late Ellen. Having a family did not slow Ms. Livesay’s musical dreams, and she attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor to earn a MusM in 1977. She was appointed as organist and minister of music with the Trinity United Methodist Church in Jackson in 1977, and went on to play there until 2003. In 1989, Ms. Livesay was welcomed as teacher of elementary music with Vandercook Lake Public Schools. She went on to Jackson Public Schools in 1998, and taught there until 2012. She has been with First United Methodist since 2003, and joined the Jackson Chorale Children’s Choir in 2008.

Ms. Livesay is additionally certified with an MA in education, which she earned from Spring Arbor University in Michigan in 2001. She is an organ soloist with the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, and has been a member of its magnet committee since 2007, the latest in many roles she has served with the group. Besides elementary schooling, she continues to teach music with Albion College and Spring Arbor University, and is a member of the Tuesday Musical Association board, the Tuesday Musical Association, and the Western High School Academy Boosters. Ms. Livesay was named 2001 Outstanding Elementary Educator by Jackson Public Schools. She enjoys reading, travel, walking, and gardening.
