Catharine Burns Liles, Painter, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Fine Arts.
Ms. Burns Liles has been the owner and president of Liles & Associates Marketing and Advertising in Macon since 1982, and is the principal painter of the collections of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She has received numerous awards for her business leadership, advertising art, and for her contributions to community groups, notably a 1991 Service Award by the Middle Georgia Council of the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. Ms. Burns Liles is a Marquis Who’s Who Industry Expert, recipient of an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and was featured in the 18th edition of Who’s Who of American Women.
A Macon native, Ms. Burns Liles was born to James Derry and Hazel Blain Burns, and worked as a sales coordinator with Burns Brick Co. She went on to become an office manager with Sides & Pope Architects before studying with Wesleyan College in her home town. She received a BFA, magna cum laude, in 1979, and was a freelance artist for many years. She became owner of Liles & Associates in 1982, and in 1987 Ms. Burns Liles became president of MarkWell Inc., a healthcare marketing firm, where she served until 1994. The “Liles” comes from her spouse, Marion Harper Liles Jr., with whom Ms. Burns Liles became the proud mother of Mary Parker Liles Johnson, Rebecca Holmes, and Catharine Harper.
Ms. Burns Liles has been a prolific member of the Macon community, serving the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce as a director of the board, networking with Kiwanis International, and working with the Middle Georgia Art Association, to name a few of her memberships. She is a three-time recipient of the Print Addy Award from the Ad Club of Central Georgia, and a 1991 Volunteer Award from the Georgia Assembly of Community Arts Agencies, now the Georgia Arts Network. Since 1990, Ms. Burns Liles has been active with the Middle Georgia Military Affairs Committee. She has also taught with her alma mater, Wesleyan College, as an adjunct, as well as with Mercer University, where she earned a Master in Liberal Studies in 1989. In addition to art, Ms. Burns enjoys running and travel. She has been recognized as a 2017 Industry Leader.
