Bea Card Kettlewood, EdD, Artist and Educator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Fine Arts.

Dr. Kettlewood has been a freelance painter since 1959, best known for her stained glass windows that have been featured in numerous public institutions in New Jersey. Her paintings have been exhibited in solo showings in over ten states. Dr. Kettlewood is also a prolific lecturer in art and art history who still gives art history lectures to varied groups and has  served the New Milford School District in numerous roles from 1951 to 1984. She is the recipient of an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and was selected for the pages of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women.

Born in Pompton Plains, New Jersey, to James Whitfield Card and Florence B. Card, Dr. Kettlewood attended Newark State College, now Kean University, and earned a Bachelor of Science in 1951. She joined the New Milford School District as an art teacher in the junior-senior high school. She went on to earn an MA from New York University in 1955, and in 1960 she became the chairman of the art department of New Milford, where she served until 1984. Dr. Kettlewood received an EdD in creative arts from New York University in 1972, and took up additional chairman roles in 1981 in the language and home economics departments of New Milford.

In addition to secondary education, Dr. Kettlewood taught for four years as an art instructor of William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey. She has also given her time as an elder on consistory of the First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains from 1987 to 1990 and again from 1992 to 1995. Her stained glass pieces reside in the Chilton Medical Center, the Morristown Medical Center, the First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains, and many other area buildings. She has been notably exhibited in “Retrospective: 50 Years of Painting” and was a gallery director of the FRC PP Art Gallery in Pompton Plains. In her free time, Dr. Kettlewood enjoys writing, architecture, and history. She married James Kettlewood in 1952.
