Gail Collier, Artist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Fine Arts.
Ms. Collier has been an artist in the Barrington Area since 1983, working in the medium of watercolor and colored pencil. She taught watercolor in the South Barrington Park District for three years near the start of her career, and is now an award-winning artist as well as a former curator with the Artistic Bits Gallery of East Dundee, Illinois. In 2017, Ms. Collier was an exhibitor with Colored Pencil Unleashed at the Prairie Center for the Arts in Schaumburg, Illinois. She is a recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and has appeared in four editions of Who’s Who of American Women.
Born in Ithaca, New York to John William and Audrey Anne Tarbox, Ms. Collier matriculated at Allegheny College with a BA in 1968, and married Joe Marvin Collier in March of 1971. She raised Kendra Seelye and Joel Henderson while working as a freelance artist and teacher. In 1987, Ms. Collier earned a MA from Northern Illinois University, allowing her to pursue other roles in her civic community. She had served as a showcase chairman of the Grove Ave Parent Teacher Organization in Barrington in 1983, and chaired the picture lady program as a member of the PTO board of the Barrington Middle School. Later, she worked as a member of the fine arts boosters board of Barrington High School from 1988 to 1990.
Ms. Collier started curating as a gallery chairman of the Barrington Area Arts Council in 1989, and was asked to speak for the Morton Arboretum Nature Artists Guild in 1995. Her art has been commissioned by the Dick Blick Studio, and in the late ‘90s she taught art in Elk Grove Village. In 2003 Ms. Collier was a featured guest artist lecturer of the Barrington Area Art Associates. Her work has been shown in numerous Midwest and colored pencil exhibitions in the region. Ms. Collier is the recipient of numerous awards, most recently the 2016 Award of Excellence from the CPSA 24th International in Tacoma, Washington, and the 2015 Best of Show at the Prairie Center for the Arts.
