Lois E. Landis Shenk, MS, Freelance Writer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of writing.

An esteemed figure in the field of writing, Ms. Shenk has accrued more than 50 years of professional excellence in her areas of expertise. A freelance writer since 1978, she has also served as an observer and correspondent to the United States Senate in Washington, DC, from 1987 to 2001 and again from 2006 to 2018. Previously, she held the role of religious news correspondent for the Gospel Herald from 1978 to 1982 and served as an English educator in Pennsylvania and Thika, Kenya, from 1966 to 1977.

In preparation for her career, Ms. Shenk sought formal education, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in English from Eastern Mennonite University in 1966. She followed this accomplishment with a Master of Science in education from Temple University in 1984. She maintains affiliation with several industry-related organizations, including as a lifetime member of the Lancaster County Conservancy and the International Biographical Centre.

Alongside her professional endeavors, Ms. Shenk has participated in a number of civic engagements in her community, including as a member of the Chancel Choir with the Lancaster Church of the Brethren since 2004, secretary of the Leadership Search Committee with the Lancaster Church of the Brethren in 2014, choir member of a concert tour to Germany in 2014, and a U.S. Ambassador for World Forum, Inc., in 2007. Furthermore, she has served as a tutor for English as a second language in 2004, a community living advisor for the Friendship Community from 1997 to 1999, and a Sunday school teacher with Alive Church Ephrata from 1997 to 1999.

A prolific writer, Ms. Shenk has authored numerous works as a novelist, poet, and feature writer. A contributor of poetry, articles, and features to professional journals, she most recently published the book “The Story of Ephrata Mennonite School” in 1996. Prior works she has completed include “Hebrews: A Study Guide for Christian Education” in 1988, “Swords into Plowshares: An Anthology” in 1983, and “Out of Mighty Waters” in 1982. Showcasing her diverse talents, she further acted as a playwright for a one-act play entitled “A House for David” in 1982. Moreover, she served as an editorial assistant for the Mennonite Central Committee in 1977.

In recognition of her exceptional achievements, Ms. Shenk has accrued several accolades throughout her career. Named World Leader of the Humanities by the International Biographical Center in Cambridge, England, in 2017, she additionally was awarded an Ambassadorship of U.S. Certificate from the World Forum in Washington, DC, in 2007. She was presented with a Global Fellowship Certificate in 2007, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Biographical Center in 2007, a Senatorial Medal of Freedom from the U.S. Senate, and a prestigious Order of International Fellowship from Cambridge, England.

The proud mother of two children, Ms. Shenk considers the highlight of her career to have been rising through the ranks as a renowned and fruitful writer. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, gardening, and listening to music. Notably, she has been inducted into several editions of Who’s Who publications, including Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women.
