In the eyes of Dr. Blanchet, “to live is to create.” She has been interested in the creative process since childhood, and is proud that her career allows her to pursue her passion. Dr. Blanchet’s primary focus is writing, and her latest book, “Cursed: A Novel of Bravery and Betrayal in Rome’s Final Century,” was released in 2018, and her previous book, “Terminators: A Saga of Lethal Mind Manipulation Over Space and Time,” was released in 2016. She has also penned “Man at the Cross Road: The Gripping Story of Christ’s Chief Executioner,” “Fire and Ice,” “Old Salty” “Herbie, the Hoodie,” “Potpourri,” and “Wellspring,” among many others over the years. Although Dr. Blanchet writes fiction, she always wants her readers to learn, so she incorporates a lot of historical material. This has earned her accolades such as the 2018 IBPA Ben Franklin Silver Award in Historical Fiction, the 2017 Second Place in Historical Fiction Award from Reader Views, and the 1980 Ada Belle Clark Welsh Fellowship.
Outside of literature, Dr. Blanchet is involved in the arts and education. She has participated in one-woman shows at museums and art galleries across the U.S. since 1988, and in exhibitions at juried art shows since 1975. She has lectured on the main subjects of many of her books, including Japanese and Chinese oriental studies. She has also served as a lecturer in fine arts at Rio Salado College, an artist-in-residence at the YMCA of the Rockies, an instructor at Tsuda University in Japan, and a lecturer on the West Campus of Arizona State University. Additionally, Dr. Blanchet plays piano and has performed at venues such as hotels, resorts, and theaters. Her professional designations include a PhD from the University of Greenwich, a Master of Arts from Arizona State University, a Master of Fine Arts from the Tokyo University of the Arts, and a Bachelor of Arts from Northwestern University. To further her academic knowledge, she completed coursework at the University of Hawai’i and at Illinois State University.
