John Dixon, Executive Director at the Academy of Music, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education management.
While Mr. Dixon grew up studying the pipe organ, he did not pursue music education during his collegiate years. Instead, he studied engineering and business, but came back to music to follow his true passion. Since then, Mr. Dixon has had a fulfilling and nourishing career, teaching, writing, and managing music programs. Since 2003, he has worked as the executive director for The Academy of Music. In addition, he has been the organist and composer-in-residence at Providence Presbyterian Church since 1998. Furthermore, Mr. Dixon has served as the president of Waller Whittemore & Co., and he has composed nearly 700 pieces of music.
Mr. Dixon first earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oxford, with honors, in 1979. He continued his studies at Harvard University, receiving an MBA in 1982. Following this, he returned to England and earned a Master of Arts from the University of Oxford in 1985. Mr. Dixon and his family relocated to the US in 1988 and settled down in Virginia Beach, VA. He attributes his success to following his passion and enjoying the new and interesting opportunities it has provided him with.
