Philip Catania, Artist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in painting and drawing.
Mr. Catania found his passion for art from a young age, having been interested in painting and drawing since he was able to hold a pencil. Recognizing his immense talent, his parents encouraged him to attend various art institutions in his youth, taking classes on Saturdays and later attending the High School of Art and Design in New York City. Seeking higher education, he pursued further studies at the Pratt Institute, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and the College of New Rochelle, where he received a Master of Arts in art education and art therapy.
Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Catania was an art educator for more than three decades, teaching art classes to adults, children, mentally handicapped adults, and correctional facility inmates. Focusing his art on surrealism and fantasy, he incorporates human figures and flowers onto the canvas, communicating the ideas about the nature of humanity. Living in rural New York, he derives his inspiration from the natural elements around him and believes that art provides therapy for the mind and soul. A constantly evolving medium that aids in self-actualization and self-improvement, art has always held a deep, intimate meaning to Mr. Catania, whose paintings and drawings portray powerful statements and tangibility to figures from worlds beyond our very own.
A prolific artist, Mr. Catania has been featured in solo and group exhibitions since 1968, having been featured in such places as the Town Hall Gallery in Woodstock, NY, Art Expos in New York City and Las Vegas, the Galerie Mouvances in Paris, France, the Galleria de Marchi in Bologna, Italy, Morrisville State College, and the Cuneen Hackett Cultural Center, among many others. His work is currently displayed in the Amsterdam Whitney Gallery in New York City, and he is scheduled to have his art showcased in the Artifact Gallery in September. In recognition of his exceptional contributions to art, he has won several awards and honorable mentions, including Who’s Who in International Art and Who’s Who in American Art.
