Barbara Potterton, Artist, Educator and Illustrator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in seascape art.
Ms. Potterton grew interested in her profession from the very beginning. Many of her family members were artists and she was always drawing from the very beginning. Her aunt was an artist in Oregon and was very well known at that time. She grew up with art and it has remained her passion throughout the years. She attributes the success she has had in the field to her mentors, including her teacher, Ejohn Robinson, and her aforementioned aunt. Additionally, there have been many people that have inspired and encouraged her throughout the years. She credits Mr. Robinson on really helping her develop her signature seascape style. One of the highlights of her career as an artist has been a man who purchased many of her paintings and said they were the only ones that reminded him of the ocean in the same way he saw it.
Throughout the years, Ms. Potterton has been featured in numerous shows and exhibits. She had a solo exhibit at California State University, and received the Best of Show Award at the Stanford Center in 1975 and at the California Art Center in 1970. She has also received a Merit Award from the American Society of Marine Artists.
