Birdie McElroy, Fine Artist and Graphics Designer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in art and education.
Ms. McElroy feels most proud of all the work she has completed for commissions. Many of these commissions were paintings for public spaces, hospitals and universities. As an artists, it brings her no greater joy to see her work fulfill others lives, whether it be in public areas of private collections. Having always loved art, she first earned a Bachelor of Art from Mundelin College in 1963. She later received a Master of Arts from the University of the Virgin Islands in 1976. Always remaining committed to her own academic pursuits; she received an AA from Ivy Tech State College in 1986.
Since 1986, she has also owned and presided over her company, Birdie Designs. She had previously been a coordinator and teacher of Early Childhood at the Antilles School in St.Thomas. Her earlier teaching positions include teaching migrant worker children in Colorado, teaching at the Visitation Academy in St. Louis, being the literary editor of the Theology Digest for St. Louis University, working as a production assistant for the Catholic radio and television office in St. Louis, and teaching in Omaha. Her artwork is represented in permanent collections at the South Bend Orthopedic Association, the Cressy & Everett Offices, SaintJoseph’s Medical Center, the National Fischoff Chamber Music Association, and the Dunbar Mortgage & Associates. In 2004, the YWCA named her the Woman of the Year.
