Steven Cost, Freelance Artist and Designer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in painting and graphic design.
In his formative years, Mr. Cost was given oil painting lessons by his grandmother, which prompted his passion for artistic endeavors. Taking art classes in middle and high school, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in commercial art at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Master of Arts in communication arts from the University of West Florida, and a Master of Arts in painting and Master of Fine Arts in graphic design from West Texas A&M University. Commencing his career in 1979, he served as the longtime department chair at Texas State Technical College until 1994. Since 1995, he has been acting as an associate professor of art and graphic design at Amarillo College.
A freelance artist and graphic designer since 1979, Mr. Cost opened his own studio, the Steven Cost Art Gallery, in Amarillo, TX, in 2008, which hosts over 100 artists. In 2015 and 2018, his gallery was named Best Art Gallery in Amarillo, and he received the Grumbacher Art Excellence Award from the Southwestern Artists’ Association in 1983. Earlier in his career, he was named Teacher of the Year by Texas State Technical College in 1981 and 1982.
In his spare time, Mr. Cost contributes to the Potter-Randall Democratic Club as vice president, Amarillo Area Democratic Headquarters as communications chair, and Texas Democratic Party as convention chairman of Randall County. In the past, he sat on the board of the Amarillo Advertising Federation for two years. In addition, he has been an associate member of Computer Graphics Pioneers with ACM SIGGRAPH. He has been highlighted in the 63rd edition of Who’s Who in America for his accomplishments.
