David Arthur Nation, Computer Scientist, Actor, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in sculpting, acting, theatre and photography.
Mr. Nation became involved in his profession after starting in architecture, math, art, psychology, in college. He later transferred to Iowa State University and was in the first graduating class in computer science. Mr. Nation became interested in art in high school and began making sculptures with clay and fire. Mr. Nation was an art major for a semester at the University of Northern Iowa, and has also taken other sculpture classes at community colleges. His most formal one was Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore in 1996. In his career as a computer scientist, Mr. Nation worked for the US Government from 1975 until retiring in 2001. He was a systems engineer and contractor for NCI Information Systems from 2004 to 2015.
In addition to computer science and sculpture, Mr. Nation has artistically expressed himself as an actor and has been a member of SAG-AFTRA since 2000 (formerly the Screen Actors Guild). He has made appearances in such films and television as Deep Impact, Patch Adams, Rocket Science and the History Channel’s Digging for the Truth. In his work as a computer scientist, he holds five patents in the field for various software. He is the author of mapping software, pattern classification software, Web software and information visualization software. He earned a Bachelor of Science in computer science from Iowa State University in 1970 and a Master of Science from Johns Hopkins University in 1979.
