Cynthia Dantzic, Artist and Educator at Long Island University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators and Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in art education.
Driven by her passion for art, Ms. Dantzic opted for a career in academia in order to share this love and prepare students in the field. Since 2009, she has provided her expertise and years of experience as a senior professor at LIU. She has taught at the institution since 1975, and in that time has also chaired the Art Department from 1980 to 1986. In addition, Ms. Dantzic has taught art at The Cooper Union, Bronx Community College, the Bentley School, North Shore Community Arts Center and the Baldwin School. In her own academic pursuits, she earned a BFA at Yale University in 1955 and a MFA from Pratt Institute in 1963.
In her career as an artist, Ms. Dantzic has exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions. In addition, she has illustrated for such books as Alphabet City: Signs of New York, 100 New York Photographers and Design Dimensions: An Introduction to the Visual Surface.Her work has been featured in such exhibits for Resnick Gallery, The National Arts Club, the Blue Mountain Gallery, the Rose Art Museum and many others. In 1966, Ms. Dantzic was featured in the “Talk of the Town” in the New Yorker. In recognition of her work, she has been a Long Island University Research Grantee since 1985. In 2018, she was honored with a 50-Year Faculty Award from LIU. Furthermore, Ms. Dantzic is a Mellon Grantee and received the Newton Teaching Excellence Award. She has maintained professional affiliation with the American Photography Archives Group, the National Arts Club, the Society of Scribes, the Long Island University Faculty Federation, the American Association of University Professors, the New York Society for General Semantics, the International Society of Copier Artists and the College Art Association of America, Inc.
