Clayton Rippey, Painter and Muralist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in acrylic and watercolor paintings.
Art has been the main fixation of Mr. Rippey’s career, and his life, since he was young. As a child, he attended the Artist World Fair which had famous painters showcasing their work there. Enamored, his burgeoning passion for the arts was encouraged by his mother, who did whatever she could to get the money to buy him the supplies to learn and continue creating art. With more than 75 years of experience of putting paintbrush to canvas, Mr. Rippey is certain that his mother’s dedication to his craft is one of the key components to his success.
Mr. Rippey studied at Northwestern University and Whitworth College before finding his stride at Stanford University. At Stanford, he earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in 1949. He later pursued postgraduate coursework at Instituto Allende in Mexico. From 1949 to 1967, on top of creating art, Mr. Rippey shared his love and talent as a professor of art at Bakersfield College. He spent the following year as a professor of art at Maui Community College before returning to Bakersfield College as a professor and chairman of the art department. He remained in these positions until 1980. In addition to teaching art, Mr. Rippey has owned a number of galleries throughout the years, including the Rippey Gallery and the Sea Spirit Gallery. He was also the Director of Exhibits at the Cunningham Museum in 1953.
Throughout his life, Mr. Rippey has done 125 one-man shows and has no plans of slowing down. He is currently seeking to showcase his abstract work in regional galleries. His one-man shows include the Cezanne International in Bakersfield, CA, the Lucian Labaudt, the Circulo de Belles Artes, the Pioneer and Hagen Museum, the Yves Joubent Gallery, the Galleria Penanti, the Galleria Mario Valente and a number of national and international showcases. In his career, Mr. Rippey maintained professional affiliation with the Wilderness Society, Habitat for Humanity, the Nature Conservancy, Greenpeace, the World Wildlife Fund and the National Wildlife Society.
