Paula Papponi, retired Superintendent, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in academic administration and art.
With more than 30 years of professional experience, Dr.
Papponi was a principal at Ruidoso Middle School in New Mexico from 1990 to
1995. Prior to obtaining this role, she was an assistant principal at Los
Alamitos Middle School from 1988 to 1990 and a teacher with Grants High School
from 1984 to 1988. Earlier in her career, Dr. Papponi was a teacher at Los
Alamitos Middle School from 1980 to 1984. She also established student and teacher
foreign exchange programs in Europe and Asia.
Dr. Papponi began her career as a student at Suffolk County Community College in Selden, New York, where she obtained an Associate of Arts, with distinction, in 1977. She subsequently joined Dowling College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, in 1979. Continuing her studies at New Mexico State University, she completed a Master of Arts in 1989 at the University of New Mexico, and a Doctor of Education in 1999. Dr. Papponi is a certified administrator in the state of New Mexico.
A respected voice in her areas of expertise, Dr. Papponi has been an active leader in her community as well. A former member of the board of directors of the Cibola Arts Council and the Lincoln County Crime Stoppers, she has been active with the New Mexico Association of Elementary School Principals, the New Mexico Association of Secondary School Principals, the New Mexico School Superintendents’ Association, and asked to present her dissertation research at Peking University in China, the University of Oxford in England, and Columbia University in New York City.
Throughout her career, Dr. Papponi has been recognized for her contributions. A recipient of a Recognition Certificate from the Education Outreach Department at Sandia National Laboratories, and a 2006 National Leadership Award from the National Republican Congressional Committee, she was presented with the Heritage Preservation Award from the state of New Mexico as well as an honorary State FFA Degree. Named a National Distinguished Principal and a Fulbright Scholar, she was also nominated for Superintendent of the Year. In light of all her accomplishments, Dr. Papponi has been featured in numerous honors publications, including Who’s Who of American Women.
She received First Honorable Mention in both the New Mexico State Poetry Contest and the Edward A. Follett National Poetry Competition. She has exhibited and sold her paintings in several art galleries and art shows in both New York and New Mexico. She has won awards for her artwork.
