Mr. Bower has established himself as a leading professional in the music industry, building a prolific career in numerous areas of the field. He completed undergraduate coursework at the Julliard School of Music, and was later recognized for his achievements with an honorary doctorate in music from Five Towns College in Dix Hills, New York, in 1980. He served in the United States Army for 46 months during World War II as the conductor of the army band and received an honorable discharge. Throughout his career, Mr. Bower has arranged and written music for numerous esteemed musicians including Glenn Miller, Dizzie Gillespie and Benny Goodman, among others. He worked as an educator for a decade at Five Towns College and recorded artists such as Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Joe Pesci, Brian Hyland, Steve Allen, Wayne Newton, The Beatles, and Cab Calloway, among others.
In addition to these successes, Mr. Bower has also found success through his written work, authoring numerous titles including “Nice Stories About Nice People” and “Play With a Pro.” He produced the albums “Funky Stuff,” “Hollywood Swinging,” “Jungle Boogie” and “Celebration” for the band Kool and the Gang, as well as numerous further albums for Brian Hyland, Andy Williams, Sammy Kaye, Dorian Dammer, Joanie Greggains, and The Border Brass. Mr. Bower became involved in his industry because his father was a piano player, composer and arranger. He also cites his friend Joe Meredith as a mentor and inspiration in his career. As an accomplished member of his industry, he has been recognized with myriad awards and honors, including the Paul Harris Fellow Award from Rotary International as well as multiple Grammy Awards for both the Best Children’s Recording of the Year and Best Spoken Word Recording of the Year.
