Location: Venice, California, United States
Yolanda Toussieng, Makeup Artist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in cosmetology.
As a young child, Ms. Toussieng became fascinated with hair. Upon graduating from high school, a friend suggested that she attend an educational program that focused on the field of cosmetology. Luckily, she was introduced to the film industry in Hollywood through her father and was subsequently hired by Universal Studios during the early 1980s. Throughout her impressive career, Ms. Toussieng has worked on the set of several well-known Hollywood productions. Early on, she served as a hairstylist for the films, “The Toy,” “Private Benjamin,” “Fallen Angel,” “Sixteen Candles,” and “Revenge of the Nerds,” between 1981 and 1984. Soon thereafter, she became the head hairstylist for other popular films in the late 1980s, including “Christmas at Pee Wee’s Playhouse,” “Grandview, U.S.A.,” and “Just One of Those Guys.” In 2019, Ms. Toussieng assumed the role of head of the hair department for “Jumanji: The Next Level,” and “Godzilla: King of the Monsters.”
For Ms. Toussieng, the highlight of her profession was being the recipient of two Academy Awards between 1993 and 1994. This event was significant because prior to the filming of “Edward Scissorhands,” there wasn’t an award for professionals in that category. She felt privileged to be able to travel and interact with many different individuals. A notable experience was working with Michael Bay for 20 years and having the opportunity to expand her horizons as a hairstylist. She was also proud to have donated the wig used in the film, “Beetlejuice,” to the Academy Museum, which was opened in October of 2019. Ms. Tousseing was gratified to have additionally earned a Daytime Emmy Award in 1988.
