Donald Gruber, EdD, Retired Secondary Education Educator and Graphic Artist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in visual arts.
Some of Mr. Gruber’s earliest memories are of putting a pencil, or crayons, to paper and drawing. His love for art has always been a part of his life. It has been the primary driving force behind many of his academic and professional pursuits. In 1975, Mr. Gruber attained a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. That same year, he began working as a visual arts instructor for Decatur Public Schools District 61. He remained there until 1982 when he transitioned to working as a training supervisor at Baldwin Associates in Clinton, Illinois. In 1985, he became the art director of C. Bedsen Company in Decatur, Illinois, until 1988. Later, in 1990, Mr. Gruber returned to school at the University of Illinois and earned a master’s degree. This qualified him for the visual arts instructor position at Clinton Community Unit Schools 15. During his time there, he additionally earned an EdD from Illinois State University. In 2004, Mr. Gruber retired after a long and prosperous career.
Mr. Gruber has been publicly acknowledged for his achievements several times. He has been a recipient of numerous grants, and he was named the Mary Packwood graduate scholar in 1992. The awards he has been given are the highlights of his career. As a result of his extensive experiences, Mr. Gruber has been able to contribute articles to various professional journals. He is a member of the National Education Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the National Art Education Association, among several other professional organizations. Though he is retired, Mr. Gruber will always consider himself a teacher. As a testimonial to his professional accomplishments, he has been featured in the fifth and sixth editions of Who’s Who in America.
