David Mitchell, Retired Editor, Reporter, and Publisher for the Point Reyes Light, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in journalism.

With more than 35 years of professional experience, Mr. Mitchell has been retired since 2005, having been an editor, reporter, and publisher with the Point Reyes Light from 1984 to 2005 and 1975 to 1981. From 1981 to 1983, he was a reporter with the San Francisco Examiner, and from 1973 to 1975 he was the editor of the Sebastopol Times. He previously served as a reporter with the Union Democrat from 1971 to 1973 and with the Council Bluffs Nonpareil in 1970. Earlier in his career, he was an instructor with Upper Iowa College from 1968 to 1970.

Mr. Mitchell first pursued an education at Stanford University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1965. He continued his studies with the school, earning a Master of Arts in communication in 1967.

A respected voice in his areas of interest, Mr. Mitchell has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. He has been a member of the California Newspaper Publishers Association, the Point Reyes Business Association, the Environmental Action Committee of West Marin, and the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors. A former advisory board member of the California Marine Mammal Center, he was the author of “The Light on Synanon,” which was later adapted into a CBS movie, and “The Light on the Coast.”

Throughout his career, Mr. Mitchell has been recognized for his contributions. The recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for his work on the Synanon, he has also received the Cervi Award for Lifetime Accomplishments as an Editor from the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including Who’s Who in the Media and Communication and Who’s Who in the West.
