Patricia Barnes Walker, PhD, Theater Producer at The Bifocals Theater Project, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in theater production.
Since she was a child, Dr. Walker utilized her creativity in any medium she could. She has always had a way with words and storytelling, and when she was introduced to the world of theater, her heartfelt a sort of fulfillment she had never felt before. In 2010, Dr. Walker became an executive producer of The Bifocals Theater Project in Richmond, Virginia, which she participated in until her retirement in 2019. The project features senior-aged actors traveling to senior centers to perform for patrons of the arts who have difficulty leaving their residencies. She has written and performed in seven one-act plays, two one-act musicals, and three full-length plays. Additionally, form 2016 to 2018, she was president of the Chamberlayne Actors Theater. Prior to her years as a playwright and actor, she owned the Aquarian Bookshop from 1997 to 2004.
Dr. Walker received a BS in elementary education from Salisbury State College in 1967, an MEd in reading from the University of Montana in 1974, and a PhD in urban services from the Virginia Commonwealth University in 1985. A certified teacher by the state of Virginia, Dr. Walker taught at Accomack County Schools for 10 years until 1977 and has served as an assistant principal in Melfa, Virginia, and as principal in Parksley, Virginia until 1981. At the collegiate level, she has taught at the Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Virginia. Moving up in the education sector, Dr. Walker was a state supervisor at the Virginia Department of Education from 1981 to 1985 and went on to serve as a consultant to the Allied Corp. and Virginia Department of General Services. A member of the National Association of Female Executives, Dr. Walker attributes her eclectic success to the support of family and friends. To attest to her career accomplishments, Dr. Walker can also be found in the 15th edition of Who’s Who of American Women and the first edition of Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
