Lucinda Juanita Underdue, Security Officer at D’Art Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in poetry.

Coming from a family of poets, Ms. Underdue always felt she had a natural ability for the written art, and it was in the first grade when writing a Mother’s Day poem that her gift first was noticed. Backed by an Associate’s degree from Bloomfield College from 1977, Ms. Underdue has published numerous poetry books in her artistic career including, “Did I Touch You Somewhere?” “The Kiss of a Bubble, And the Pond Ripples,” “In the Shadows of Raindrops” and “Skinsecurity.” Notably, she was the recipient of the English Honor Silver Award for her poem, “By Candlelight.” In addition to her writing, Ms. Underdue finds inspiration in house painting, music and decorating, and gives credit to her mentors Betty Meals, Joann Polite, Mrs. Wyatt and Mrs. Hudson.

Ms. Underdue served with the U.S. Army National Guard from 1991 to 1992, which she recalls as the most profound years of her life. Her father was her inspiration for serving in the military, as he had been a soldier and he would often take Ms. Underdue to army bases with him in her youth. In relation to her military service, Ms. Underdue had worked security with Bloomfield College from 1981 to 1984 as a patrol guard and officer guard and for the D’Art Center from 2006 to 2010 as a security officer. Over the years, she has also worked in various roles at the Liss Center Pharmacy, the U.S. Postal Service, Burns International Society, Family Dollar, Virginia Beach Convention Center, Office Max and BlockBuster Video. Ms. Underdue holds membership with the Arbor Day Foundation, People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals, St. Labre Native American School, Audubon Society, Humane Society, Habitat for Humanity and the Northern Plains Indian Reservation. To attest to Ms. Underdue’s career achievements, she can also be found in the 56th and 57th editions of Who’s Who in America and the 23rd and 25th editions of Who’s Who of American Women.
