Sanford “Sandy” Robbins, Producing Artistic Director of Resident Ensemble Players at the University of Delaware, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in theater education and professional theatre production.
Mr. Robbins was initially inspired to enter the theater and performing arts by the work of Eva Le Gallienne. Deciding to pursue the field, he obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts, both in theatre Drama from Carnegie Mellon University. Mr. Robbins has been the Director of Theatre and Master Teacher in Instructing and assistant theater programs at several universities throughout his career, including the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Carnegie Mellon University. Mr. Robbins currently serves as Producing Artistic Director of the theater Resident Ensemble Players at the University of Delaware. Attaining the role in 2008, he has also served as a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Theatre since 1988. Prior, he served the University of Delaware as Director of Training for the Professional Theatre Training Program.
In light of his outstanding contributions to theater education, Mr. Robbins earned the Thalia Award for Best Production in Finland for Shepard’s “The Tooth of Crime.” Likewise, his theater program at the University of Delaware was named among the Top 10 Theatre Programs in America by U.S. News & World Report. In 2019, he also earned the John Houseman Award from The Acting Company. Maintaining affiliation with the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, the Theatre Communications Group and the National Theatre Conference, Mr. Robbins was notably appointed to the Taskforce of the Theatre Training for the National Endowment of the Arts earlier in his career.
