Shireen D. Mahmud, Photographer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in photography.
Ms. Mahmud became involved in her photography because she loved the world, nature, and people around her. She wanted to document everything she saw and put it into her own perspective. She began to take photography classes in 1977 and went to school for mass communications, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in mass communications magna cum laude from the University of Hartford in 1982. She subsequently worked for several newspapers and a production company while attending school. She also worked for the University of Hartford’s newspaper and video production while she was a student there. After graduation, she started working freelance and eventually worked for clients getting calls. She also had several shows in galleries for her art and photography. That is why she says photography is her passion. After completion of her degree, she earned an FCC License.
The highlight of Ms. Mahmud’s career was working as a photojournalist for various newspapers in Connecticut. She worked for Middletown Press and Connecticut Post. She considered one of her achievements. When her work was published in the newspaper, many people would tell her that they saw photos of her neighbors and co-workers and they liked her work. Being sent to all different parts of the state covering all different types of assignments none being the same, she was able to do that successfully, and she is proud of that. In addition, she was proud to work as a photojournalist covering many fascinating human-interest stories. She also produced a theater program on cable television from 1985 until 1995. Ms. Mahmud began working as a part-time medical secretary in 1979 for Middletown, Connecticut until 1982. Since 1985, she has been a freelance photographer in Middletown Connecticut. Mrs. Mahmud received awards in the local area and was selected to be an Editors Guide to freelance photography. From her state, there were only five photographers chosen and she was one of them. Nationwide 3000 photographers were selected, only 285 were chosen in the United States and she was the one selected from Connecticut. She is also listed in numerous editions of Who’s Who of American Women, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who in America.
