Michaela Kelly Hughes, Artist Actress, Film Director and Dancer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in dance and acting.
Ms. Hughes first began her career in entertainment as a child, where she acted in several plays at the Alley Theatre. Eventually, she earned a scholarship to attend The Houston Ballet Academy and School of American Ballet. She graduated high school early to dance with the Houston Ballet at the age of 16. Subsequently, she became a principal dancer with the Eliot Feld Ballet before joining the American Ballet Theatre in 1979. Today, Ms. Hughes is an award-winning artist showing in many galleries and museums in the Los Angeles area as well as with private collectors. She has an abstract style and her usual medium is acrylic with mixed media on canvas.
As an actress, Ms. Hughes has appeared on Broadway as Gloria Upson in “Mame,” as Cassie in “A Chorus Line” and as Charity in “Anything Goes, as well as in” “On Your Toes” and “Raggedy Ann.” In films, she worked in “Alice,” “A Chorus Line,” “The Human Quality” and “Portfolio.” To add to her feats, Ms. Hughes was featured on “Saturday Night Live” and excelled as a recurring character on the soap opera “Another World.” In a career filled with highlights, she is especially proud of having ballet choreography inspired by her, created by Eliot Feld at the beginning of her career. Additionally, she is fond of having the privilege to work with amazing and varied choreographers and portraying the role of Myrta in “Giselle” with American Ballet Theatre.
In an effort to remain knowledgeable of changes in the industry, Ms. Hughes maintains a professional relationship with the Screen Actors Guild, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, Women Painters of the West and American Women Artists. In light of all her accomplishments, she has been honored many times throughout her career, earning features in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Entertainment and Who’s Who in American Women.
