Joan Strauss Carl, Sculptor and Painter, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in painting and sculpting.

Interested in creating art from a young age, Ms. Carl studied at the Cleveland School of the Arts, the Chicago Art Institute and the New School of Art to hone her skills. A former lecturer at the University of Judaism, faculty member at the Valley Center of the Arts and lecturer of the Federal Visual Arts Program, Title Three, in the early 1960s, she is renowned for establishing the California Confederation of Art in partnership with state legislatures. Recognizing the need for representation for local working artists who lacked a voice at the time, she has since felt a sense of delight and euphoria from artists across the nation who have thanked her for her work in representing them.

Ms. Carl has had her artwork displayed at one-woman shows at the Paideia Gallery in Los Angeles, the Bel Air Extension Gallery in Beverly Hills, California and the Courtney Collins Gallery in Raleigh, North Carolina. Likewise, her work was featured at the Linden-Kicklighter Gallery in Cleveland, as well as at several universities such as Muskegon Community College, Bakersfield College and Cerritos College. An artist in group shows as well in such galleries as the West End Gallery in New York, the Stuart Kingston Galleries in Naples, Florida, the Feldheim Library Gallery in San Bernardino, California and the Lankershim Gallery in North Hollywood, California, her work has further been commissioned in various collections across the world. Notably, Ms. Carl’s paintings and sculptures have been highlighted by the Government of Japan and the International Cultural Center for the Youth in Jerusalem. To attest to her success, she received a Design Award from the Ceramic Tile Institute of America and was selected for inclusion in the 25th and 26th editions of Who’s Who in the West.
