Mary Hilaire Tavenner, PhD, Owner at Dutch Ink Publishing, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators and Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the fields of writing and education.

Having led a long and eventful life, Dr. Tavenner has distinguished herself as a writer, public speaker and educator, through which she has written a number of books, taught several thousand students and delivered hundreds of talks on a great variety of subjects through her company, Dutch Ink Publishing. Originally dedicating herself to the Franciscan Order as a nun for two decades, she later served as an elementary school teacher in Florida and contributed for 15 years as a teacher of adult education on behalf of the Lorain City School District and Lorain County Community College. Likewise, Dr. Tavenner found success as an adjunct professor at several higher academic institutions, and as the education director of the Sylvan Learning Center of Sheffield, Ohio.

Dr. Tavenner first sought a formal education at Maria Regina College, from which she earned an Associate of Arts in 1970. She subsequently received a Bachelor of Arts in 1974 and a Master of Arts in 1982 from Catholic University and the St. Charles Seminary, respectively. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Tavenner attended the University of South Florida and graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in 1993.

Well regarded as a prolific author, Dr. Tavenner has written numerous books on various subjects, including on her experiences in the convent through “Nun of This and Nun of That,” memoirs of her travels throughout Peru, Puerto Rico and France, and on Helen Steiner Rice, an American poet who lived and is buried in Lorain, Ohio. She also produced her own radio broadcast program with 24 weekly shows through Bold Brave Media, many of which are available on her personal website. To commemorate her accomplishments, Dr. Tavenner has received numerous accolades, including recognition as the Compassionate Woman of the Year by Lorain County Community College in 2011.
