Denyse Baboolal, Founder and Artistic Director at Jayadevi Arts Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in cultural arts.
Dedicated to the field of arts and culture, Ms. Baboolal has flourished as the founder and artistic director of Jayadevi Arts Inc. (JAI). Founded in 2008 and a nonprofit organization since 2010, JAI preserves, teaches and works to rejuvenate the arts and culture of Indo-Caribbean communities living in the South Florida area. Earlier in her career, Ms. Baboolal had worked as a choreographer, radio and television host, grant writer and reviewer, TurboTax agent and Verizon agent. She was also the founder and producer of the United Phagwah/Holi Celebration Festival of Colors, as well as the operations manager of the Rajkumari Center for Indo Caribbean Arts and Culture from 2000 to 2012. Ms. Baboolal recalls being featured in the New York Times in 2000 for her 11 dance performances at Lincoln Center as the highlight of her career.
For her notable achievements and efforts in her profession, Ms. Baboolal was named Nonprofit Outstanding Woman to Watch in 2021 by Nonprofit HR and to the Top 25 Pioneering Prominent Indo-Caribbean Woman in New York in 2017. In addition, she was the recipient of the Preservation of Arts and Culture Award from Trinidad and Tobago Independence Ball Committee Inc. in 2019, as well as the Caribbean-American Heritage Award from the National Caribbean-American Heritage Month Committee and the Diversity and Inclusion Award from Florida Department of State Division of Cultural Affairs, both in 2016. In 1995, she took home the Positive Indo-Image Award from the Indo-Caribbean Cultural Organization. Ms. Baboolal attributes her success to her family, who instilled in her a passion and love for the arts.
Ms. Baboolal received an Associate of Arts from the Borough of Manhattan Community College, a Bachelor of Science from Empire State University and a Master’s degree in nonprofit management from Capella University. In 2017, she attended broadcasting school and became certified to host radio, television and events. Presently, Ms. Baboolal holds membership with the National Association of Nonprofit Organization and Executives.
