Margaret Drake, artist and sculptor at Margaret Drake Fine Art, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in visual arts.
Ms. Drake is the owner of Margaret Drake Fine Art and an artist working primarily in bronze and ceramic sculpture, pastel, and bas relief of horses, wildlife and scenes of the American West. She spent much of her childhood in a small ranching community in Northern Colorado and exercised a penchant for art throughout the course of her childhood, during which time she practiced by copying Frederic Remington prints in her parents’ house. Gifted in the subjects of mathematics and science, as well as the visual arts, Ms. Drake earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology and chemistry from the University of Northern Colorado in 1971. After graduating, she sought a position where she could use her scientific degrees outside of academia, which led her to the pharmaceutical industry.
For the next three decades, Ms. Drake led clinical drug trials for various pharmaceutical companies. In 2009, she retired from the pharmaceutical industry and returned to her initial passion, opening Margaret Drake Fine Art. In accounting for her standout success, she credits the qualities of diligence, tireless practice and perseverance. Her work has been featured at such prestigious events as the Bosque Art Classic, the Texas Masters of Fine Arts and Crafts show, the Mountain Oyster Show, Little Rock’s “Sculpture at the Rivermarket,” and Loveland’s Sculpture in the Park. Well regarded for her work, she was bestowed with the “Best of Show” award at the 2016 Breckenridge Fine Art Show and has been included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Western Art in Kerrville, Texas, among other honors.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Drake aspires to continue refining her artistic practice, gain further recognition as a sculptor and fine artist, and sell more pieces to museums and private collectors. In her personal time, Ms. Drake sits on the boards of both her local hospital and the Summerville Historical Association, and is active in the Texas Sculpture Guild and the Women Artists of the West.
