Joann Wehler Hensel

Title: Artist
Location: Olga, Washington, United States

Marc Aronson, Artist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in watercolor painting.

Drawing on more than five decades of expertise in abstract landscape painting, Mr. Aronson has garnered a laudable reputation for his visionary style of watercolor painting and prodigious body of work. Known for the intentionally distressed and weathered appearance of his paintings, his work primarily relies on an intricate process of “rephrasing,” through which the image is destroyed and restored. Through this method, the history of the work itself is laid bare, replete with references to its own making through every stroke.

Inspired to enter his profession by his mother, with whom he visited a variety of galleries and art museums during his youth, Mr. Aronson’s work has been featured in several dozen group and solitary exhibitions throughout the United States since 1971. Likewise, many of his paintings can be found in permanent collections hosted by Time Warner Inc. in New York City and at the King County Library System Foundation in Burien, Washington. Elected as a fellow by both the New York Foundation of the Arts and by the National Endowment for the Arts in 1980 and 1976, respectively, Mr. Aronson is most proud to have had his work displayed in 2009 during a group and solo exhibition, OK Harris – Works of Art, in New York City.

Before venturing onto his vocational path, Mr. Aronson sought a formal education at Western Washington University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1971. Following this accomplishment, he studied at New York University, from which he attained a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Arts in 1989 and 2004, respectively. Committed to advancing the scope of his academic efforts, Mr. Aronson has continued to study studio and environmental art at NYU since 1989.
