Annette Polan, Chairman at the Corcoran College Art and Design, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in painting, drawing and photography.
Ms. Polan was invited on a trip with her high school teacher, Mrs. Lois Dolin, during the summer through England and France. The exposure during their trip and her teacher’s nurturing inspired her and she also remembers it being an exotic experience. She had never seen such beauty. The experience changed everything for her. She saw how big the world was and how art played a major part in it. Before starting on her career path, she earned a degree from Institute des Professors de Francaise in 1965 and then received a Bachelor of Arts from Hollins University in 1967. Continuing with her education, she took postgraduate coursework at the Corcoran College of Art and Design from 1968 to 1969.
The highlight of Ms. Polan’s career is being an educator and her career at Corcoran College because it is one of the country’s foremost art institutes, which is now part of George Washington University. She is also proud of being known internationally as a portrait artist. Since 1991, she has been a chairman of the painting department at Corcoran College of Art and Design. She is also a principal at the Insight Institute, where she has been since 2013. As a testament to her success, Ms. Polan received a Distinguished Alumni Award from both Corcoran College of Art and Design and the Institute des Professors de Francaise, The Department of Defense Outstanding Service Award and being honored by the Chairman of the Joint Chief.
