Kim Martin aka Mary Ellen Marth, Entertainer, and Writer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in musical performance.
Growing up on a farm, Ms. Martin recalls the start of her musical career began by singing to the birds and squirrels. At the age of five, her mother landed her a gig in Minneapolis on the radio show “The Slim Jim Program,” where she tap-danced and sang life, which further blossomed her love for performing. Progressing in her musical career, Ms. Martin went on to perform in the Three-act Stage Play and Band on a weekly radio broadcast in Bismarck, North Dakota. She had also been a singer and drummer for Norm Larson Trio, a singer for Stinson Brothers and Flame Café, and a vocalist for Del Clayton and a 17-piece orchestra. Likewise, she has played rhythm and bass guitar for various country groups in Twin Cities, Minnesota.
Since 1960, Ms. Martin has been the founder and bandleader of “The Kim Martin Show,” in which she has toured across the United States and Canada. To add to her career, she wrote the song “They Took You and Me (and Little Jimmy, Too),” and recorded with Producer Gerry Peters, Midi Magic Studio, and Alleluia Productions in Nashville, Tennessee. Notably, Ms. Martin was inducted into the Mid-America Hall of Fame in 2007 and was named Songwriter of the Year in 1980, Best Band of the Year in 1979, Female Vocalist of the Year in 1978), Entertainer of the Year in 1978, and Queen of Country Music by the Midwest’s Country Entertainers Association 1977. Alongside her band, she has also been a real estate owner with Marth Properties since 1972. Presently, she maintains membership with the Winneshiek Genealogical Society, Filmore County Historical Society, Vesterheim Genealogical Society, Minnesota Historical Society, and BMI Music.
