Professor Zhiyuan Cong, MFA, Professor at William Paterson University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators and Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of printmaking.

Standing at the threshold of cultures between the United States and China, Mr. Cong has garnered a laudable reputation as a printmaker, Chinese ink painter and professor at William Paterson University, where he has also served as the head of the printmaking program since 1994. Additionally maintaining involvement as the director of the university’s Center for Chinese Art, he is the chairman of the board of the Chinese-American Art Faculty Association and the program director of the university’s summer art program in China. Mr. Cong previously found success as an instructor of Chinese art at Indiana University between 1989 and 1994, and the Nanjing Arts Institute from 1980 until 1988. Furthermore, he consulted on behalf of the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Qinghai Province Museum.

A prolific artist, Mr. Cong is most well-known for his rice paper paintings and etchings, which feature both traditional Chinese themes and “collision and union,” which he describes as a blend of Chinese artistic themes and American influences. His work has been shown in solo exhibitions at the Nantong Central Art Museum of China, the National Museum of China, the Folio Gallery of the School of Art at Texas Tech University, and the Riverside Gallery in Hackensack, New Jersey, to name only a few. Furthermore, Mr. Cong has featured several of his pieces at exhibitions hosted by the Chinese-American Art Faculty Association, the Ruth Davis Design Gallery at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum, and the National Printmaking Institute of China, to name only a few.

Having come of age during the Cultural Revolution in China, Mr. Cong initially exhibited his work at the China Art Museum in 1974 at the age of 18, which provided the impetus for his career path. Embarking upon his education at the Nanjing Arts Institute, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1980 and a Master of Fine Arts in Chinese painting in 1986. Furthermore, he earned a Master of Fine Arts in printmaking at Indiana University in 1994. Over the span of his professional journey, he has won numerous awards, including several gold prizes at various competitions and conferences, in addition to a large number of silver awards.
