Penny Oliphant, fine artist at Oliphant Studio, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the visual arts.
Ms. Oliphant is an award-winning painter and photographer best known for her intimate, melancholic take on images of rural and small-town Maine. She began drawing as a child, and knew that she wanted to become an artist before she had even started kindergarten. Raised in a family with a strong creative bent- her grandmother was an alumna of the Pratt Institute and her mother worked as a draftsman- Ms. Oliphant found support for her talents, and attended the Portland School of Art before completing her Associate’s degree at The Art Institute of Boston in 1975.
Ms. Oliphant has been painting professionally for more than 30 years and working in fine art photography for nearly a decade. Her work has been featured in dozens of group shows and juried exhibitions, and she has had solo shows at the University of Maine, Stairwell Gallery, Davidson Contemporary Art, and the Owls Head Transportation Museum, among others, and she is represented in the permanent collections of institutions including the Yukyung Art Museum, the Pittsfield Public Library, and the People’s Heritage Bank. She was the winner of the Maine Open Juried Show Harry Faust Memorial First Place Award, an honorable mention in the Art In Maine Juried Show, and was named an Artist of Distinction in Stillpoint Gallery’s “Dwellings” show.
Currently, Ms. Oliphant is preparing for an upcoming solo show at New York’s Artifact Gallery. She looks forward to continuing her practice, and attributes her success to having a clear vision of her goals and the focus to pursue them. Ms. Oliphant is active in the Circle Arts Foundation and the Boothbay Region Art Foundation.
