Gregory J. Manchess, Artist at Manchess Fine Art Ltd., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in commercial illustration.

For more than 40 years, Mr. Manchess has flourished as a commercial artist and freelance illustrator, with his portraits and artwork appearing on periodical and book covers and interiors including Time, Atlantic Monthly and The Smithsonian. He has enjoyed commissions by the United States Postal Service to illustrate stamps commemorating Mark Twain, Oregon Statehood and the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

After earning a Bachelor in Fine Arts from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1977, Mr. Manchess excelled for two years as a studio illustrator with Hellman Design Associates. His impressive portfolio includes portraits of Abraham Lincoln at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois and numerous works for National Geographic, which sent him on an expedition to the Fond du Lac River in Canada to record the exploits of early 19th-century explorer David Thompson. Additionally, Mr. Manchess has illustrated more than 20 book covers from 1987 to the present. His numerous awards include the prestigious Hamilton King and Stephan Dohanos Awards given by the Society of Illustrators in New York. In addition, he has been presented with awards from the Society of Illustrators in Los Angeles, Artist’s Magazine, Communication Arts and Spectrum.

Mr. Manchess considers his most notable achievement to be his involvement with the mission patch for three National Aeronautics and Space Administration SpaceX flights from 2020 to 2021. His first graphic novel, “Above the Timberline,” was published in 2017, and he hopes to release a second one soon.
