Helena de Crespo, Founder of Save World Art, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in artistic preservation.
Born in Barcelona, Ms. de Crespo immigrated to England at a young age. Enraptured by acting and the theater, she was accepted at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and London University Drama Program in London under full scholarship, where she finalized with honors. In addition, she obtained a licentiate degree with honors from the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Over the course of six decades, Ms. de Crespo has performed and directed on stage, film and television in 16 different countries, beginning her career performing “Marry Rose” in Inverness, Scotland and making her Broadway debut in “Anthony and Cleopatra” alongside George C. Scott, Coleen Dewhurst and George Segal. From 1970 to 1972 she was contracted to Desilu Studios and has expressed her delight in working with Lucille Ball. Ms. de Crespo later flourished as drama chair at the University of Nuestra Senora del Rosario in Bogota, Colombia, where she founded the theatre company “502” which toured Columbia and represented Columbia in Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil.
While appearing with a theater company in Cambodia with artists who had survived the Khmer Rouge and were working to revive Cambodia’s native opera, Ms. de Crespo founded Save World Art, a nonprofit corporation dedicated to working internationally to preserve indigenous art forms under the threat of extinction. While Save World Art continues to support the Cambodian troupe, the organization has expanded its efforts worldwide in developing projects that will promote the health of individuals and their environment and support their continued ability to perform and produce their art. Save Our Art currently supports artistic communities in Cambodia, Columbia, India, Iran and Mali.
Ms. de Crespo attributes her success to sharing her love and dedication for what she was doing and showing her art to the world. While she takes pride in having received a number of awards throughout her career for her art, what she really considers her most notable achievement would be founding Save World Art.
