Jan McCanless, Author, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in writing.

Growing up with a love for reading and watching her father excel as a publisher, Ms. McCanless desired to write stories of her own that people could love and cherish. Today, she is as an award-winning author and humorist of more than two decades. Known for her family friendly mysteries, she describes her work as “happy murders” because she works in ample humor and are character driven. Ms. McCanless has authored numerous works, including “Murder at the Stateline Motel,” “Laugh Out Loud Funny Stuff: Brain Drippings, Book Two” and “Murder on the Rocks: The Final Beryl’s Cover Mystery,” all of which were published in 2021. Her first book was published in 2005.

In addition, Ms. McCanless is the author of “Bizarre Brain Drippings from a Noted Sagittarian: And More Thoughts of Home,” “The Opera House Murders (Beryl’s Cove and Brother Jerome Mystery Series),” “Gold, Frankincense and Murrrder (Beryl’s Cove Mysteries),” “Murder for the Profit (Beryl’s Cove Mysteries),” “The Ins and Outs of Making Money from Writing,” “All Aboard . . . for Murder (Beryl’s Cove Mysteries),” “Murder in Midair” and “Who Killed the Weatherman (Beryl’s Cove Mysteries).” Prior to her writing career, Ms. McCanless earned an Associate of Science in medical technology from Catawba College.

Ms. McCanless has been honored with several awards throughout her career, as she was nominated for the International Woman of the Year Award in 2005 by Traditional Home Magazine and was bestowed with the Mother Vine Short Story Award by Barnhills Books of Winston-Salem in 2013. For her volunteer work, Ms. McCanless was recognized as the Woman of the Year for child abuse prevention by Rowan County in 1978. Notably, she has served as president of the State of Organization for Child Abuse and Family Violence Prevention. Looking toward the future, she hopes to continue writing out of a passion for the craft and in response to her loyal fans.
