Location: Marion, Iowa, United States
Ryan J. Siders, Artist at Oryan and Underground Art Gallery, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in painting.
A renowned artist of more than 40 years, Mr. Siders continues to excel today through Oryan and Underground Art Gallery. Consistently featured as an artist in local galleries, he has sold about 240 signed original paintings within the last four years and is active with United Way. Reflecting upon his years as an artist, Mr. Siders considers a particular highlight was when he asked the owners of a restaurant if he could hang his 24 by 36 sunflower painting in their establishment. They offered him a section in their wall to hang his piece, and he also put his information there. To Mr. Siders’ surprise, an engaged couple bought the painting for themselves as their wedding gift, and they even bought him dinner.
Mr. Siders considers art as his safe space, as he has lived with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and the challenges that come with mental illnesses. The whole world made sense to him every time he picks up an art utensil, quieting the chaos in his mind and serving as a form of therapy. Looking ahead, Mr. Siders’ goal is to ultimately teach his style of painting to anybody that’s had childhood trauma, anxiety, depression, or any of those illnesses. He believes that his form of painting therapy is highly teachable and something anybody can do. He would like to become established as the gallery owner with a storefront in Marion, as well as apply with the Iowa Arts Council for a grant possibly to further art education and appreciation in the State of Iowa.
