Tom Glenn, Author and Book Reviewer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in publishing books based on his military experiences.
Drawing on his many years as an intelligence operative with the United States military, during which he shuttled between the U.S. and Vietnam on clandestine signals intelligence assignments, escaping South Vietnam when it fell to the North in 1975, Dr. Glenn has toured the country lecturing on leadership and management, trained federal executives, and was the Dean of the Management Department at the National Cryptologic School. He has excelled as not only an intelligence operative, but as a musician, linguist, cryptologist, caretaker for the dying and as an author, publishing 17 short stories and six novels.
As a civilian employee of the National Security Agency, he was tasked to be an undercover military operative. He was in uniform, living with the troops, and doing the same things they were doing. His main job was really the exploitation of the radio communications of the North Vietnamese, tipping off US and friendly forces as to where the enemy was, what they were planning to do, and how big their forces were.
After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in music and a Master of Arts in government in 1974 from The George Washington University, Dr. Glenn later earned a Doctor of Philosophy in in public administration from GWU in 1993. He served his country in military intelligence for over three decades, with the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, Maryland from 1961 to 1992 and in Vietnam from 1962 to 1975, garnering a Civilian Meritorious Medal.
Dr. Glenn’s published works include “Coming to Terms: Short Stories,” “Secretocracy: A Novel,” “Last of the Annamese,” “Bitter Memories: The Fall of Saigon,” “The Trion Syndrome, ” and “Friendly Casualties (Stories from Nam Book 1).” He was named a featured author by the Gaithersburg Book festival in 2014.In addition, he has contributed articles on the fall of Saigon and other subjects to Studies in Intelligence, Atticus Review and Cryptologic Quarterly. As a book reviewer, his articles have appeared in The Washington Independent Review of Books and the Internet Review of Books.
After making his way through a troubled childhood, Dr. Glenn determined as early as age six that he was going to have to take care of himself because nobody else was going to do it for him. That shaped him into a person who is extremely self-reliant and very independent, an outlook that has saved his life many times all those years when he was in the battlefield. In the coming years, Dr. Glenn intends to continue writing and reviewing books and hopes to expand the scope of his readership.
