Location: Denver, Colorado, United States

Hugh Grant, Founding Director and Curator at Kirkland Museum of Fine and Decorative Art, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in art curation.

Since 1996, Dr. Grant has prospered as founding director and curator of the Museum of Fine and Decorative Art in Denver, which was conceived as a venue to document, rediscover, collect, preserve, exhibit and publish more than 150 years of international decorative art and work by Colorado and regional artists. He was inspired by his friend and mentor Vance Kirkland, the distinguished Colorado painter, whose works have received more than 350 exhibitions at 70 museums and 35 universities. The Museum’s significant collections include many of Mr. Kirkland’s works. In addition, the Museum’s international decorative art collection is considered one of the most important displays in North America that includes notable examples of every major design period from Arts & Crafts through Postmodern.

During his earlier career, Dr. Grant notably worked for a local sound company as an audio technician, then ran his own company, Paragon Productions. During his tenure as the Museum’s curator, he obtained a Doctor of Fine Arts with honors in 2003 from the University of Denver. The winner of the the Heartland Emmy Award for Best Entertainment Program of 2000 for his role as Executive Director of “The Artist and the Muse,” a ballet that aired on PBS stations, Dr. Grant has also received the 2015 Citizens of the Arts Award from the Fine Arts Foundation, the 2009 Bonfils-Stanton Foundation Award for Contributions in the Field of Arts and Humanities, the 2000 Historic Denver-Ann Love Award for Historic Preservation, the 2000 AFKEY Award from the Alliance for Contemporary Art (AFCA) at the Denver Art Museum and the 1999 Mayor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts. Attributing his success to his passion for music and art as well as his perseverance, Dr. Grant is hoping to further promote the Museum of Fine and Decorative Art and ensure that the works of Vance Kirkland and Midwest fine artists are preserved and exhibited.
