Ms. Lane obtained a Bachelor of Science in education from Kent State University in Ohio in 1977 and later continued her education with a Master of Science in education from the College of Mount St. Joseph, now known as Mount St. Joseph University, in 1988. She provided superior education as a mathematics and reading teacher with the Lakeview Local School District from 1998 to 2008 and subsequently as a literacy coach with Trumbull County Educational Service Center from 2008 to 2010, in which she interpreted test scores and modeled and recommended teaching strategies to teachers.
Having loved writing and composing since she was a teenager, Ms. Lane has excelled as editor and features writer for the Cortland News from 2004 to the present. She has researched local history extensively and served as president of Cortland Bazetta Historical Society and Museum from 2005 to 2007. In what she considers a career highlight, Ms. Lane has authored four books on the history of her local region that include “A Walk Through Historic Cortland” and “Cortland and Bazetta Township,” which appeared on the nationally famed Arcadia imprint. She attributes her success throughout the years to the friendships that she has made in her hometown. In the coming years, Ms. Lane intends to have finished writing at least one of the children’s books on which she is currently working.
