Larry J. Hoefling, Author at McHuston Booksellers, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in historical writing.

An award-winning journalist, Mr. Hoefling is a historical author who has written six books over the last 25 years. He is the longtime owner and operator of McHuston Booksellers, an Irish-themed independent bookstore, and is also a past working partner of an Irish restaurant and pub. Previously, he worked in broadcasting and in the news media as a radio deejay, reporter and television news anchor for more than 20 years. He was the network voice of cable television’s TV Guide Channel and thrived as a newspaper reporter with the Daily Oklahoman.

Mr. Hoefling published the books “Nils Thor Granlund: Show Business Entrepreneur and America’s First Radio Star,” in 2010; “Scots and Scotch Irish: Frontier Life in North Carolina, Virginia, and Kentucky,” in 2009; and “Novel Last Names: Surname Meanings for the Creative Fiction Writer” in 2008. He additionally authored “Nils Thor Granlund: The Swedish Showman Who Invented American Entertainment” and  “Pittsburg County” in 2008, as well as “Chasing the Frontier: Scotch-Irish Migration in Early America” in 1997.

Mr. Hoefling produced a 30-minute documentary, “Is There a Justice,” for the radio station KTMC that resulted in the establishment of a Bill of Rights for crime victims in Oklahoma and improved the way police interacted with victims of crime. He received two national awards, from the Scripps Howard Foundation and Columbia University, in recognition for his work on the documentary.

In preparation for his professional career, Mr. Hoefling completed coursework at Tulsa Community College. Much of his success is attributed to his natural curiosity and affinity for history. In the coming years, he intends to further build upon his research skills and continue writing books.
