Mr. Calhoun has found success since 1990 as a professional drummer. Since 2020, he has excelled as the owner and president of Brian Calhoun Music and Drums Inc., operating as the Calhoun Music and Drum Academy. He has studied with elite drummers and works to pass on his knowledge to his students. An accomplished music educator, Mr. Calhoun is known for his innovation and adaptability. Prior to his current position, he was a senior music specialist with Family Residences and Essential Enterprises Inc. from 2009 to 2020. Among his achievements and recognitions, he has been featured by ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, News 12 Long Island, TIME, USA Today, Newsweek, NowThis, Newsday, FloMarching, Modern Drummer and Rhythm Magazine.

For his professional excellence, Mr. Calhoun received a leadership award from Family Residences and Essential Enterprises Inc. and a National Direct Support Professional Recognition Award from the American Network of Community Options and Resources in 2014. In 2013, he earned The Mousecar award from The Walt Disney Company. In 2012, Mr. Calhoun was awarded a State Association of Day Service Providers Certificate of Appreciation.

In preparation for his career, Mr. Calhoun attended Five Towns College, completing coursework in music education, business and performance in 2000. He earned a Drums Professional Certificate from Berklee Online in 2021. Mr. Calhoun considers being one of the world’s foremost experts on teaching music to individuals with disabilities his most notable accomplishment. In the coming years, he hopes to expand his private teaching practice and expand with strategic partnerships in the community. In his spare time, he enjoys playing drums and studying jazz.
