Since 1981, Dr. Stifler has excelled as the artistic and executive director of Venetia Stifler & Concert Dance Inc. She is additionally a professor emerita at Northeastern Illinois University, a designation she has held since 2014. From 1987 to 2014, she shared her expertise as a full professor and chair of the music and dance program at Northeastern Illinois University. Since 1978, Dr. Stifler has served as a teacher of modern dance, jazz and ballet at her company.
Throughout her career, Dr. Stifler has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades, including a creative grant from the Poetry Foundation. She is an Emmy-nominated choreographer and director. Among her credits, she received the Ruth Page Award and was Named for Outstanding Artistic Achievement by the Chicago Dance Coalition in 1985.
Among her creative works, Dr. Stifler has been the artist-in-residence with the Mies van der Rohe Society at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Her work has been featured at numerous festivals and shows. From 2000 to 2020, she was the artistic and executive director of the Ruth Page Foundation.
In preparation for her career, Dr. Stifler attended the University of Illinois, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1983. In 1987, she graduated from the Union Institute with a Master of Fine Arts equivalent degree. She concluded her higher education at the Union Institute in 1992, obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy. Dr. Stifler became involved in her profession because it has been her life’s single and greatest passion.
