Mr. Colby volunteers at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, writing grants and essays in support of his curating and community outreach. He earned the Eco Inspiration Award from the GreenUp Jamestown Coalition and chairs the Jamestown High School Stanley A. Weeks Scholarship for excellence in academics, athletes, and service.

From 1997 to 2013, Mr. Colby was the director of the Weeks Gallery at Jamestown Community College (JCC), where he curated exhibitions that integrated visual artists, scholars, poets, and musicians. Diversity and social and environmental justice themes prevailed. He received numerous awards, including the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service and multiple JCC Awards for Excellence.

Mr. Colby received a Master of Fine Arts in photography (1980) from the University at Buffalo and studied with Nathan Lyons at Visual Studies Workshop. He earned a Bachelor of Science from SUNY Brockport (1973). To keep abreast of his field, Mr. Colby joined the Society for Photographic Education, serving as the Northeast Region’s past chair, secretary, and treasurer, and participated in national conferences as a portfolio reviewer.

Featuring artists from across the nation and around the world and receiving numerous regional, state, and national grants and awards for artistic and curatorial projects were Mr. Colby’s most rewarding accomplishments.
