Sebastian V. Martorana, Founding Owner at Sebastianworks and an Adjunct Professor at the Maryland Institute College of Art, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in sculpture and arts education.

With more than 20 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Martorana has excelled as the founding owner of Atlantic Custom Carving LLC (dba Sebastianworks) since 2008, a consultant and stone carver for Hilgartner Natural Stone Company Inc. since 2007, and an adjunct professor in the illustration department for the Maryland Institute College of Art since 2006. During this time, he was additionally active as a participant for The Smithsonian American Art Museum in 2012 and an adjunct professor at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in 2013. He previously served as an apprentice with Manassas Granite & Marble Inc. from 2002 to 2006. Over the course of his career, Mr. Martorana has had his work featured in multiple publications, including DCist in 2008, The Washington Post in 2010, The Baltimore Sun in 2014 and CultureHall in 2014.

Attributing his success to his deep interest in stone carving, which he fostered in his youth, Mr. Martorana supported his professional ambitions with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration from Syracuse University in 2003 and a Master of Fine Arts from the Rinehart School of Sculpture at the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2008. Among the many highlights of his professional endeavors, he is incredibly proud to have had works commissioned by the U.S. Government, including the Grand Field of the U.S. Federal Reserve in 2021 and additional inscription work at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Celebrated among the 40 Under 40 in Craft Futures by the Renwick Gallery at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in 2012, he was likewise presented with multiple accolades from the American Craft Council and the National Sculpture Society. Notably, he was also selected by Anthony Bourdain to be among the five artists showcased in the Balvenie Rare Craft Collection Tour. In the coming years, Mr. Martorana aims to become more selective with his freelance projects, as he enjoys finding more interesting and challenging commissions that allow him to bring his personal visions to life.
