Patrick J. Nau, owner and photographer at Patrick Nau Photography, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pet photography.
Across more than 40 years, Mr. Nau has established himself as a leading photographer in his community. During the first half of his career, he took pictures at hundreds of weddings, as well as high school, child and family portraits. In the early 2000s, Mr. Nau transitioned into pet photography, building out a unique skill set to help set him apart from the increasing prevalence of new digital photographers. He is one of the few photographers in the Twin Cities region who still operates a traditional portrait studio, Patrick Nau Photography, which he opened in 1980. Mr. Nau also offers outdoor pictures at a park near his studio.
On top of decades of experience, Mr. Nau’s skill is backed up by coursework in audiovisual technology and photography completed at Hennepin Technical College in 1978. He prides himself on having high standards in all scenarios and being willing to take on any challenge, including uncommon mixes of pets, such as one scenario where he photographed eight dogs together in a single session. Mr. Nau actively solicits feedback from his clients and has offered free reshoots in the rare cases where clients were not totally satisfied with the results. From 2006 to 2016, he partnered with a local pet food store, taking pictures during open houses and other events. Mr. Nau launched a program to feature customers’ pet photos in the store and aided expansion as the pet store grew from 12 to 24 locations. He also volunteers his artistic skills as part of the Children’s Healing Art Project.
When not practicing photography, Mr. Nau enjoys tennis, reading, taking long walks and spending time at lakes. A longtime fan of local sports, he serves as a part-time usher at Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Timberwolves games to supplement his primary income. Looking to the future, Mr. Nau hopes to expand Patrick Nau Photography and attract new clients. Though he’s nearing his 70s, he has no intention to retire and plans to continue pursuing pet photography.
