His previous roles include serving as assistant professor in the department of radio, TV, and film at Howard University from 2009 to 2011 and guest associate professor in the same department in 2007. He has also contributed his expertise through master classes in directing at institutions such as Annapurna College of Film and Media from 2020 to 2021, the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater in 2020, the London College of Communication in 2019, American University in 2019, and the Communication University of China in Beijing in 2018. Additionally, he frequently serves as a speaker, sharing his knowledge and insights with the next generation of filmmakers.

As a screenwriter, producer, and director, his notable works include “Cocktail Party” in 2015, “Seriously Fresh” in 1989, “Reunion” in 1988, and “Max” in 1976. Additionally, he has directed numerous documentaries and theater productions. In light of his impressive undertakings, he has earned several prestigious awards including Best Black Film for “Reason to Hope” at the 26th Black International Film Festival in Berlin in 2011, and three Cine Golden Eagle Awards for “Doubles” in 1996, “Struggle and Success” in 1994, and “Seriously Fresh” in 1990. His film “Reunion” won the Gold Award at the Philadelphia International Film Festival in 1989, and he has also received an Emmy nomination.

Reflecting on his path, Mr. Life laid a solid educational foundation, earning a postgraduate diploma in theater arts from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, in 1973, and a bachelor’s degree in both drama and sociology from Tufts University, also in 1973, as well as a Master of Fine Arts in directing for theater and film from New York University in 1976. He takes great pride in his work on major productions such as The Cosby Show and Sesame Street, as well as his long-form documentaries that have aired on PBS, NHK in Japan, and NHK in Britain. He attributes his success to his ability to resist stereotypes and avoid limiting himself, always striving to break out of the conventional boxes imposed on him.

In the coming years, Mr. Life envisions gradually winding down his professional commitments but plans to remain active by being more selective with his projects. He is considering revisiting his previously written book and focusing on completing the projects currently on his plate. He also plans to explore new ideas with an open mind, allowing new challenges and opportunities to reveal themselves naturally.
