Victoria J. Sebanz, Artist at Victoria Sebanz and President at Chapparal Artist Group, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Artists for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Education, Arts and Dance.

Ms. Sebanz is a distinguished artist whose expertise in photography, illustration, painting, mixed media, dance and poetry spans decades. For much of her career, she worked in dance and education, beginning as an assistant dance teacher at California State University in Los Angeles in 1990, as an art specialist at the Alhambra School District in California between 1990 and 1993 and as an art specialist at East Los Angeles College from 1991 to 1995.

For the bulk of her career in education, Ms. Sebanz was employed by the Los Angeles Unified School District, the second-largest school district in the country, where she enjoyed a rewarding tenure as an arts curriculum designer, advocate, and art and dance teacher between 1992 and 2022. Her tenure allowed her to contribute significantly to the district, including designing arts, ethics, and health aspects for one of the school’s curricula, introducing and implementing the Arts Wheel to the entire district, implementing a sequential dance program, and developing the arts rotation and the arts bridge program. Ms. Sebanz also served on the SATC committee, where she helped select textbooks and hire staff members.

As an artist, Ms. Sebanz has remained affiliated with Burning Man in Black Rock City, Nevada, since 2000, involved in art, dance, collaboration and advocacy. She was also instrumental in launching a camp to troubleshoot 18 camps. Among her many works, Ms. Sebanz recently completed “I Occupy Myself,” a large, interactive art installation she intends to display at upcoming festivals. She has also become recognized for designing five murals for display at the Edmund D. Edelman Children’s Court in Los Angeles. Her students notably assisted her on this project.

Ms. Sebanz graduated from California State University in Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Arts in art and theater arts in 1992 and a Master of Arts in interdisciplinary arts education in 1997. Professionally, she has been affiliated with several industry-related organizations, including the Southern California Women’s Caucus for Art, the Women’s Caucus for Art, the Arroyo Arts Collective, the Los Angeles Center of Photography and the California Dance Education Association. These memberships have been pivotal in Ms. Sebanz’s ability to remain at the forefront of her industry and network with like-minded individuals.

Since retiring from the education sector, Ms. Sebanz has remained invested in her community. She has been the president of Chaparral Artists since 2023. The nonprofit membership organization promotes arts and culture in California’s High Desert region. Among other initiatives, Ms. Sebanz has been an activist for Native American issues since 1977. She previously served as a board member for the Center for Healthy Generation.

Ms. Sebanz’s many career highlights include writing her first book, “She Has a Penchant for Passion.” She is now working to complete a second book about her near-death experience in 2017.

In recognition of her accomplishments, Ms. Sebanz received several recognitions from the National Poetry Library and the Volunteer of the Year Award from the City of Los Angeles for her murals at the Edmund D. Edelman Children’s Courthouse.

As she prepares for future endeavors, Ms. Sebanz envisions opening an art gallery and forming a dedicated dance facility to promote dance within her community. She also hopes to continue writing and publishing two more books.
