With three decades of experience, Mr. Riley has established a successful career in photography, specializing in street photography, event photography, educational events, portraits, macro photography, and weddings. Since 2016, he has excelled as a freelance photographer with Photoeye Inc. and has also served as a trainer and transportation specialist for Durham Transportation Services since 2014. His prior experience includes roles as an implementation engineer and IT project manager. He laid a strong educational foundation, completing coursework at the Watchtower School of Gilead in 1980, earning a certification in photography from Harrisburg Area Community College from 2016 to 2020, and becoming a certified COVID-19 contact tracer in 2020.
Mr. Riley’s passion for photography began in his early teens, inspired by his grandfather, a photographer. He refined his craft through formal education and years of practice, capturing individuals and scenes in their natural environments. Living abroad for six years, he engaged in missionary work across West Africa, the South Pacific, and the United States, experiences he believes have enriched his artistic perspective. A career highlight came in 2018 when he earned third place in the prestigious IPA International Photography Awards. He also secured first place at the Student Expo for a New York street scene and won additional accolades in subsequent years, including a first-place portrait award in 2019 and honorable mentions from IPA, the London International Awards, and the Tokyo International Photography Competition in 2020.
Mr. Riley attributes his success to hard work, honesty, and his commitment to traditional photography techniques that emphasize the beauty of the medium. Looking to the future, his goal is to create images that captivate viewers with a distinct and thought-provoking approach, positioning his work to stand out in the competitive photography market. In advising aspiring professionals, he says to “dream big and don’t give up.”
